Yesterday Dapper Fellow and I did a little pre-SF shopping. As dinner time rolled around I suggested we go to The Parlor, a restaurant I had been to before, but he had not. When making suggestions to Dapper Fellow about restaurant choices it goes something like this…”Is it good?” “Is it foo foo?” “Is it expensive?” “Will I like it?” All of which are valid concerns. I am much more adventurous when it comes to trying out new things or tasting something I had never tried before and he likes what he likes. Which makes cooking for him very easy. In the 1.5years we have been dating I have seen this guy’s taste buds grow immensely. He recognizes ingredients, has become adventurous on his own, and samples things without me begging him. This may not sound important, but it is such a big deal to me. Growing up in the restaurant business everything is always centered around food. Being able to share a good meal with someone and talk about it is special. The flavors of the meal, conversation and the quality time combined is priceless.
The Parlor-(a beauty parlor turned pizza parlor) did not disappoint. A comfortable, hip, upscale modern pizzeria spot that grows it’s own vegetables and herbs. When you walk up to the front door the planters are along the side of the building and my heart, no joke, literally started to race. It is very difficult to find this sort of fresh eating practice in Phoenix.
The menu is lovely and offers the perfect variation of apps, salads, pizzas, sandwiches and pastas. Typically when ordering food I always get the special of the night or whatever the server recommends. No one knows the menu better than the staff that works there. We ordered the following:
Mac & Cheese: Hand Made Cavatelli / Shropshire Crema /Pancetta Breadcrumbs
Swiss Chard Salad: Swiss Chard/Brussels Sprout Leaves / Shaved Root Vegetables / Citrus / Feta / Hazelnut Pesto (You may have seen this on my Instagram. This is the best salad I have ever had!)
A Small Salsiccia-Schreiner’s Parlor Blend Sausage /Grilled Radicchio / Sage / Saba. (The Food Network named this pie Best in Arizona!!!)
Small Pappardelle Bolognese- Rustic Meat Sauce / Pecorino / Rosemary Oil
The portions were perfect. Not too big and not too small. Needless to say we still took a lot of food home. Thanks for the wonderful service and welcome from Nick the manager and your amazing food Parlor! In our family when we find a place we like a lot we call it a homerun! Dapper Fellow agrees and says we will be back very soon!
