Savory Sunday’s-Su Vino

su vino winery

I am so excited to share with you all about Su Vino.  This little gem has been in my backyard for 6 freakin years and I never knew! Su Vino is the only winery in the Phoenix area and although they are not a vineyard they make their wine all on site.  We happened to be there while a family was about to bottle their batch.  I have been wine tasting many times, but this was such a unique experience.  They offer tastings every day, but Monday and host private parties and events.  Su Vino I will see you soon you in a week when my girl Angie is here!IMG_3624 IMG_3625 IMG_3629 IMG_3628 IMG_3631 IMG_3630 IMG_3626 IMG_3627

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Savory Sunday’s-The Parlor

Yesterday Dapper Fellow and I did a little pre-SF shopping. As dinner time rolled around I suggested we go to The Parlor, a restaurant I had been to before, but he had not.  When making suggestions to Dapper Fellow about restaurant choices it goes something like this…”Is it good?” “Is it foo foo?” “Is it expensive?” “Will I like it?” All of which are valid concerns.  I am much more adventurous when it comes to trying out new things or tasting something I had never tried before and he likes what he likes. Which makes cooking for him very easy.  :)  In the 1.5years we have been dating I have seen this guy’s taste buds grow immensely.  He recognizes ingredients, has become adventurous on his own, and samples things without me begging him.  This may not sound important, but it is such a big deal to me.  Growing up in the restaurant business everything is always centered around food. Being able to share a good meal with someone and talk about it is special. The flavors of the meal, conversation and the quality time combined is priceless.

The Parlor-(a beauty parlor turned pizza parlor) did not disappoint.  A comfortable, hip, upscale modern pizzeria spot that grows it’s own vegetables and herbs. When you walk up to the front door the planters are along the side of the building and my heart, no joke, literally started to race.  It is very difficult to find this sort of fresh eating practice in Phoenix.

The menu is lovely and offers the perfect variation of apps, salads, pizzas, sandwiches and pastas.  Typically when ordering food I always get the special of the night or whatever the server recommends. No one knows the menu better than the staff that works there.  We ordered the following:

Mac & Cheese: Hand Made Cavatelli / Shropshire Crema /Pancetta Breadcrumbs

parlor mac & cheese

Swiss Chard Salad: Swiss Chard/Brussels Sprout Leaves / Shaved Root Vegetables / Citrus / Feta / Hazelnut Pesto (You may have seen this on my Instagram. This is the best salad I have ever had!)

A Small Salsiccia-Schreiner’s Parlor Blend Sausage /Grilled Radicchio / Sage / Saba. (The Food Network named this pie Best in Arizona!!!)

Small Pappardelle Bolognese- Rustic Meat Sauce / Pecorino / Rosemary Oil

Pappardelle Bolognese

The portions were perfect. Not too big and not too small.  Needless to say we still took a lot of food home. Thanks for the wonderful service and welcome from Nick the manager and your amazing food Parlor! In our family when we find a place we like a lot we call it a homerun! Dapper Fellow agrees and says we will be back very soon!

Savory Sunday-Liberty Market

I think it’s safe to say I have found one of my new favorite restaurants in Phoenix. This is huge because this never happens. I am such a loyal follower to my local favs that it is hard for me to try some of these new trending places.  I heard and read nothing but awesome things about Liberty Market and couldn’t wait to try it out.  Only one problem, it is very far from my house.  It took a few weeks, but I made it into Liberty Market solo for lunch one day.  I instantly was drawn to the exposed kitchen, concrete flooring and the awesome lighting.  It was a very old school vibe with fresh Portland foodie feel.  I couldn’t wait to order.  I got the Best Chicken Sandwich and it was indeed one of the best chicken sandwiches I had ever had.  I returned 3 times later that week alone and when the weekend came brought my mom to join me…

Liberty Market Gilbert Arizona

4We got the Best Chicken Sandwich again and also added the soup/salad combo and tried the minestrone and house salad.   The ingredients were so fresh and we didn’t talk for 15 minutes because we were just too busy devouring all the amazing food.  I highly recommend this amazing restaurant if you’re ever in the East Valley part of Arizona.

*Liberty Market is located in Gilbert, Arizona*

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Inside The Bungalow

Good Morning! Happy Savory Sunday!

Today I am writing about one of my favorite coffee shops called Inside The Bungalow, located in Mesa, Arizona.  This spot is not only a cafe, but doubles as a darling, one of a kind wedding venue.  Tucked back in historic Mesa you can find this charming, antique house that looks like it was transported from the Midwest.  I first discovered this great spot when I was looking for a good LOCAL coffee shop that is close to my work.  When I walked up I fell in LOVE as I am sure you will based on the pictures.

I get the same thing every time. 16 oz Americano with 2 Sugar In The Raw.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed a good cup of coffee or two!

Savory Sunday’s-BLD

Happy Savory Sunday loves! I missed last week’s Savory Sunday because I was in SF, but this week I am sharing with you one of my family’s favorite spots called BLD.  It just so happens to be down the road from our church and the concept is killer.  BLD-Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner is in charming Chandler, Arizona and offers a great variety of comfort/American food that delivers across the board quality.  Have you ever been to a place for lunch or dinner then tried their breakfast and it wasn’t up to par? Or vice versa? It has definitely happened to me before.  I have eaten at BLD for all meals and it excels across the board.  On this particular day I went to lunch with my gf’s Krystal and Kelly and we were all feeling burgers.  I think we can all agree that there is something to be said about a good, homeade, cheeseburger. MMMM I want another one just thinking about it!

Another awesome thing about BLD is that they offer cooking classes.  If you live or are ever visiting Chandler, Arizona be sure to check it out. You won’t be disappointed!

Savory Sunday’s-Brosenbrus

OMG I literally have had THE best 24 hours of my life and it has nothing to do with fashion, clothes, vintage items, or anything of the sort. My Dapper Fellow was out of town this weekend and in true Beezie fashion my bests all came together for one last hoorah.  E is moving to NYC and we are unsure when we will see her again so it was the most amazing surprise of 2012!!! On Saturday we went grocery/craft shopping and literally did an entire evening of DIY, bedazzling, spray painting, etc.  We had so much fun and were beyond crafty for the entire weekend! Here is my Savory Sunday as well as an added bonus of our DIY projects…

E and I ventured out to Brosenbrus in Tempe, AZ for breakfast this am and we were very happy with our choice! Brosenbrus is a local cafe/restaurant in Tempe, AZ and they have a great variety of breakfast and lunch! It is owned by two best friends and you can feel that comradery once you enter the establishment!

I got the Diablo Sandwich which was exactly as I would think it would be…SPICEY! So good tho.

E and I also did our fair share in DIY projects this weekend which included spray painting and bedazzling pumpkins and spray painting lamps!!!! Here are our creations…

Hope all of you lovelies had a fab wkd!

Savory Sunday’s-Ollie Cake

Honestly, who doesn’t like cupcakes? I had the pleasure of delighting in one of the best cupcakes I have ever had at Ollie Cupcake’s in Phoenix this weekend.  Such a hole in the wall that could easily go unnoticed.  “On average, they use 75% organic ingredients in their baking.” In addition, they source local ingredients whenever possible such as eggs, dairy, nuts, honey and more. In their words…”Better for you, better for the environment.” Nothing makes me more happy than finding places like Ollie’s. I will need to go back for the cookies that’s for sure!

It is businesses like this that make me want to be a better business owner. “Urban Cookies’ commitment to its community started on day one when its owners created a trade agreement with the non-profit that gave them their start – free use of their kitchen in exchange for teaching some of their at-risk teen girls to bake and run a business. To this day, Urban Cookies continues to support Florence Crittenton’s mission with cash donations and in-kind cookie and gift donations for fundraisers.”

“Throughout the years, Urban Cookies has provided additional job training and mentorship to clients from organizations such as Good Will of Central Arizona and Southwest Autism Resource and Research Center. In addition, it provides internship experiences to culinary institute students from across the Valley, allowing them the rare opportunity to learn directly from a small business owner.”

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

Savory Sunday’s-The Coffee Shop

One of my passions besides fashion is food.  Considering I am currently on a spending freeze from shopping I wanted to incorporate another dynamic for AVC…introducing “Savory Sunday’s” I am going to try and do this every week, but we will see how it goes.

I grew up in the restaurant industry. It has been my job since I was 15.  I currently manage one of my family’s restaurants called Jimmy and Joe’s.  When I lived in San Diego I managed two different concepts and it was there I was introduced to the farm to the table concept of food.  The idea of growing, producing, buying and eating locally.  A concept that many don’t know about or care about, but truly is important.  As a family and also with my Dapper Fellow we hardly ever eat at chained restaurants and seek out the mom and pop, organic, locally harvested spots.  Being in San Diego it was soooo easy to find places like this because they are BIG contributors in this movement and have perfect weather for farms.  Living in Arizona it is a bit more difficult, but they’re catching on. :)

Today I met up with two of my bests for lunch at a spot I had never been to before called The Coffee Shop.  It was the cutest, well marketed, amazing spot that we all enjoyed SO much.  I wish it wasn’t so far away from my house, but it was definitely worth the trip.

I got the Field Veggie sandwich and added turkey. Sooooo good! I hope you all had a fab weekend!
